We are excited to share an important update about our graduation pathways starting in the 2025-2026 school year. At St. John’s Academy Shawnigan Lake, we are proud of our position when it comes to academics: it’s always about the kids. Our mission is to provide exceptional challenges with exceptional support, fostering academic success and the growth of kind, capable, and resilient humans. 

 

With the successful establishment of our International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP), we are thrilled to announce the addition of a Dogwood Diploma curriculum pathway to our senior school offerings. This evolution allows us to better serve our diverse learners by providing multiple pathways to success, ensuring every student can pursue their goals in a way that aligns with their unique strengths and aspirations. 

 

The IB DP pathway remains a cornerstone of our academic program, offering students a globally recognized and rigorous education that prepares them for the challenges of university and beyond. Research shows that IB DP graduates experience high university completion rates and are well-equipped with the skills to thrive in academic and professional settings.

 

Currently, our senior students are taking DP classes to earn the IB Diploma and the Dogwood Diploma. In 2025-2026, senior students will be able to take either DP classes or Dogwood classes. 

 

We are proud to offer the Dogwood Diploma pathway, British Columbia’s highly regarded high school credential. This pathway provides flexibility and opportunities for students to excel in academics, arts, and athletics while meeting the provincial requirements for graduation. The Dogwood Diploma is a testament to the strength of B.C.’s education system, and we are excited to offer it alongside the IB DP to ensure every student can shine.

 

This expansion reflects our commitment to empowering students with meaningful choices and personalized opportunities. By offering both the IB DP and the Dogwood Diploma curricula, we continue to prepare our graduates to make a difference in the world while thriving in a rapidly changing landscape.
